This talk will review the data from the literature on various mushrooms and immune function and present some new research data on Ganoderma mushrooms. The emphasis of the talk will be on the clinical uses of mushrooms as determined by the complex effects on cytokines and cellular immune function. Specifically, the complex mix of mushroom constituents that have different effects alone appears to give unique immune modulating properties seen when the whole mushroom extract is used. The use of mushrooms in cancer and autoimmune disease will be discussed in the context of the immune function.
