Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcus (PANDAS) and the broader diagnosis of Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) are becoming better recognized in children. Infectious agents act as triggers of the syndromes, which are characterized by acute and dramatic pre-pubertal symptom onset. These complex conditions present with a myriad of neurological changes such as separation anxiety, behavioral regression, anorexia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and tic disorder. This lecture will be a discussion of the clinical presentation and case management of PANDAS/PANS patients.
