This presentation focuses on the uses of standardized Rauwolfia for hypertension. Rauwolfia is available in several species. Rauwolfia serpentine and Africana have important differences in alkaloid content that are significant in the standardization process and in the treatment of hypertension. Recent meta-analysis of drug interventions emphasizes the use of simple diuretics as safe and effective for treatment of hypertension. This lecture will review the botanical diuretics available including standardized Parsley and Dandelion. Specific botanical protocols are presented with current research and case studies.
