The enzymes involved in the metabolism of drugs will be reviewed in light of recent investigations. Drugs and foods which can affect the activity of these enzymes will be presented in order to understand how a patient's detoxification capacity might be altered. Finally, a brief summary of two studies will be presented which assessed how the activity of drug metabolizing enzymes were affected by different detoxifiction and/or cleansing programs.
