The scope of patients diagnosed with hyperlipidemia is a vast spectrum, ranging form simple dietary indiscretion problems to familial tendencies to genetic disorders. The decision to treat should be multifactorial and include: family history, diet and exercise habits, the presence or absence of other cardiovascular risk factors, lab factors (lipid profile, homocysteine, C reactive protein, glucose and hg A1c, etc.) and possibly include an ultrafast CT scan for the heart. This course will cover the above information through lecture and case presentation.
