In keeping with our ANM theme of the human life cycle, this lecture is to enable the participant to gain emotional insight into the patient experience of illness; to facilitate self-reflection on the participant?s roles as providers of patient care at the end of life; to describe the philosophy and principles of hospice and palliative care that can be integrated across patient care settings to effect quality care at the end of life; to identify strategies for non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions for pain and symptom management to persons at the end of life; and to explore the end of life in special populations.
