This session will provide current information on the distribution and management of two very serious grape pests threatening California and elsewhere: mealybugs and Pierce?s disease vectored by the glassy-winged sharpshooter. Mealybugs have become an increasing concern, particularly with the spread of the vine mealybug. The vine mealybug is established in the Central Valley and has been found on the Central Coast. The situation with Pierce?s disease and glassy-winged sharpshooter will be examined using Kern County as a test case.
