This discussion will focus on generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and chronic insomnia in women. Anxiety disorders can manifest differently in women and can worse premenstrually, postpartum and in the perimenopausal transition. We will include an overview of these disorders and a clinical approach to enhance clinical outcomes in women with particular attention to the influence of cortisol on sleep disturbance, and the influence of hormonal states on insomnia and anxiety.
