Domestic violence is willful intimidation, physical assault, sexual assault and other abusive behavior perpetrated by an intimate partner against the other. Primary Care Providers are often the first individuals to make contact with a woman who has been abused. This presentation will provide information about how to identify a batterer, support a woman who has been battered, recognize posttraumatic stress symptoms, identify sexual issues for battered woman and understand the impact of violence in the home on children. You will leave with a checklist and understanding of how to help women protect themselves and step out of the cycle of abuse.
