ND's often spend a good portion of a well child visit on parent education regarding diet, nutritional status and vaccinations. It is harder to broach the topic of parenting interventions because we may not be educated on the current research regarding behavioral issues or due to practitioner discomfort discussing parenting issues. It is important as ND's providing holistic care of children that this topic be understood and explored with parents. The aim of this talk is to educate physicians regarding the current research about what parenting strategies foster emotional wellness and how to deliver this information to parents in a non-threatening manner.
