According to the American Autoimmune and Related Diseases Association, 50 million Americans suffer with autoimmune disease (AD), and the prevalence is rising. AD is one of the top 10 leading causes of death in women of all age groups up to 64 years of age. While these statistics are dismal, systems-based natural medicine has much to offer the woman with AD. In this lecture, we will review current underlying pathophysiology, including biochemical and hormonal imbalances, identified in most AD. With this understanding in place, case studies will be used to illustrate the use of high leverage natural interventions in the treatment of AD.
