This presentation will include discussion of the management of the most common types of acute pediatric conditions seen in the primary care setting. Within each topic will be a case study presentation with diagnosis and management, and discussion of both conventional and naturopathic treatment protocols. Topics to be included are acute asthma, croup, bronchiolitis, acute headaches, head injuries, fevers and anaphylaxis. Each case study will begin with the presentation of subjective and objective findings and a discussion of the differential diagnosis. Video and photos will be included whenever appropriate. Assessment and diagnosis will then be discussed, including both natural medicine and conventional treatment protocols.
Focus will be evidence-based therapies, but discussion will also include experience-based therapies. Conventional treatment guidelines will include the most up-to-date information. Special attention will be given to referral guidelines for acute and emergency management.
