This lecture discusses the normal course for the immediate postpartum period through the long-term sequelae of childbirth and breastfeeding. The central questions are how to support women to be healthy through this time in their lives, how to prevent short and long-term complications of birthing children, and how to address common complaints that arise in a primary care setting with herbal and nutritional therapies. Topics will include establishing normal expectations for women regarding the postpartum period, and discussion of specific conditions including perineal and abdominal wall healing, breastfeeding, bone health, sexual health, mood and more.
