Many writers and fans agree: there was a golden age of mysteries, usually identified as the '30s and '40s. What was special about those mysteries? Has there been no improvement in the mystery field? Or are these mysteries golden because they were, for so many of us, a first introduction to adult, thoughtful mysteries?
