DESCRIPTION: Unlike other thyroid treatments, when patients are weaned off Triiodothyronine therapy their temperatures and symptoms often remain improved even after the medicine has been discontinued. This "resetting phenomenon" is a hallmark of triiodothyronine therapy for Wilson?s Syndrome. This presentation will discuss how to wean the triiodothyronine in order to maximize the body?s ability to maintain the benefit of triiodothyronine on its own after the treatment?s been discontinued.

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

1. The importance of weaning down slowly and smoothly

2. Stress can cause relapse

3. Weaning triiodothyronine in patients who are hypothyroid

4. Why one way transitions from triiodothyronine to T4 and from T4 to triiodothyronine are helpful

5. How long to stay off triiodothyronine between cycles
