This presentation deals with the various kinds of regulations of herbs in the United States, particularly claims allowed for herbs as dietary supplements under the Dietary Supplements Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA). Mark also discusses the difference between a structure-function claim and a therapeutic or drug claim, which is not allowed by DSHEA. There is also talk about possibility of making some limited claims in the area of OTC drugs which are now allowed in some cases for dietary supplements. There is also a brief review of the regulatory situation in Canada.
