This talk will include a discussion of the benefits and possible drawbacks of using raised beds for herb production. Ths basis of the session will be experiments conducted at the University of Illinois Department of Horticulture Vegetable Research Farm which documented some of the increases in yield and quality that may be achieved using raised beds. Construction and maintenance of the beds, multiple options in bed design, soil amendments, planting techniques and compatibility with other common cultural practice will also be included. Photographs of ten diverse herb varieties used in the studies will serve as examples.
