Intermediate Class (1.5 hr): This talk will provide an overview of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) including the final report by the Presidential Commission of Dietary Supplement Labels. This session is geared toward providing an overview of the present political and regulatory environment of the mainstream herbal industry. Time permitting, a general discussion of recent developments regarding the labeling of liquid and standardized extracts will be presented as well as the present situation of analysis of standardized extracts and what the standards have to do with efficacy.
