Factors identified in the aetiology and morbidity of asthma include inflammation, chronic infection, disordered upper digestive function and allergy. Traditional herbal medicine also recognizes the role of diet and unhealthy mucous membranes. These considerations will be synthesized into a model for the herbal management of asthma. Important medicinal plants will be discussed.
