In the last few years articles, lectures, supplements and laboratory testing have come out that focus on the phase one and phase two biotransformation pathways in the liver. These pathways are designed to alter the chemical structure of compounds in our blood making them both more or less toxic and excretable. These functions can be altered by genetics (genetic polymorphism), nutrient presence (both macro and micro nutrients), heavy metals and stress. This talk will cover some of what is currently known about genetic polymorphism, including how to spot it in a patient history and what possible health ramifications it can have.
