As herbal medicine has become more popular, our reliance on a small number of medicinal plants has caused many species to become threatened or at risk. Utilizing a limited materia medica also limits the practitioner's choices in clinical practice. The American Extra Pharmacopoeia is a project started by David Winston 15 years ago to familiarize North American herbalists with common, weedy species of plants that are useful and effective medicines but are little know on this continent. In this class we will explore the medicianal uses of Kudzu, Japenese Knotweed, Honeysuckle, Ground Ivy, Sweet Melilot and many other plants.
