Humans and plants have been mutually engaged in an interdependent relationship for millions of years. This interdependence goes beyond plants as merely clothing, shelter, food and medicine, but rather leads to the assertion that we have been shaped by plants and we have shaped plants, from genotype to phenotype. Followed logically, this paradigm challenges the current pharmacological model which is currently based on using single isolated molecules. The rationale extension of this paradigm to human health suggest that due to a long history of relationship with plants and the resultant phytochemical exchange, mixtures of plant compounds interfacing with a human system are of vital biologically importance to wellness and the healing process.
