All plants affect us and all plants are teachers, but some of them are particularly articulate. Physically, the articulation is mediated through the language of neurotransmitters. Spiritually, the relationship is mediated through rituals and songs. This class will be an overview and discussion of the many families of sacred plants that affect our consciousness, from the Phantastica (such as peyote) to the Inebriantia (barley, grapes, and yeast) to the Excitantia (tea and coffee) to families more obscure. Almost all cultures have embraced one or another of these great families, and the family chosen tends to delineate the culture.
