DESCRIPTION: Once patients have found a suitable dose of triiodothyronine, it is often reasonable for them to stay on that dose for a time. This presentation will review when it might be preferable to remain on a plateau of triiodothyronine or to wean off triiodothyronine. Patient compliance with dosing times is especially important in the administration of triiodothyronine therapy, as is the use of sustained-release triiodothyronine. T4 can also be used as a stabilizing influence in triiodothyronine therapy and the management of side effects of triiodothyronine will also be discussed.

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

1. Explain the importance of taking the triiodothyronine on time

2. Describe Slow Release triiodothyronine and its relevance compared to instant-release triiodothyronine.

3. Explain importance of charting temperatures and symptoms during treatment.

4. UseT4 as a stabilizing agent / antidote

5. Explain the importance of addressing any side effects early
